The growth in mobile marketing has been phenomenal. With over half of the adult population owning a smartphone, consumers are going online to search for information and make purchases. Marin Software just released its annual mobile search advertising report. Executive Vice President, Wister Walcott, predicted that in 2015 paid search on mobile devices will account for fifty percent of all advertising clicks. In 2013 mobile advertising clicks represented 34.2 percent of the total market. This should be a wake-up call to any business that has not focused on mobile marketing.

Marin’s study found additional details about how U.S. businesses and consumers are responding to mobile marketing. They found that mobile CPCs grew by 20.8 percent last year while desktop CPC’s only grew by 10.7 percent. Tablets now have the highest conversion rate at 5.5 percent.

Click through rates have also risen in mobile marketing. Paid search on a smartphone is less cluttered than on the desktop which has, in part, contributed to the CTR on smartphones being 3.75 percent, compared with 2.29 percent on computers.
