Exciting news from Google+ on the social media front. They are running tests right now on placing ads within the Google+ platform. They will not function like traditional ads cluttering the side bar or top of the page. Instead, they will look like standard Google+ posts. This new Google marketing tool will function similarly to the promoted Facebook posts that show up on Facebook news feeds. The ads will be part of Google’s paid search platform and when a user hovers over the ad for 2 seconds or longer a fee will be charged. The hovering makes it possible for the full content to open up.
For those of you that are not using Google+ you should start. They have 300 million users and provide an easy way to connect with people. Here are some tips for how you can use Google+ now and incorporate these ads into your Google marketing strategy.
Tips to Incorporate Google+
• Business Profile – You can upload your business profile for free and have it feed into Google’s local directory. This improves your SEO and allows you to interact with people online through Google’s platform.
• +1 (aka “Likes”) – This is the symbol to like something. If you share something on your Google+ page your staff, friends, and clients can +1 it, comment, and share like on Facebook.
• Interactive – The new Google+ paid search functionality will allow you to create interactive ads where you can invite consumers to a Google Hangout (speak and interact with a large group), ask them to review your services, follow your page etc. The entire Google platform is highly interactive and provides more options than simply sending someone to your website.
• Social Media – Google+ should be part of your overall social media strategy. You can complete your profile section and link your other social media profiles, blog, and website so that people can connect with you.
Toyota is testing the platform now with interactive ads that promote their “Collaborator” tool. This tool allows users to build their own Toyota and have friends give feedback through Google Hangouts. Toyota currently has 274,00 followers that can see their daily postings. Using this Google marketing paid search option, they can expand their efforts and reach a wider consumer base. Stay tuned for when Google will open this up to the general public so that your business can be one of the firsts to benefit.
